This coming Saturday I've got a concert at Hamilton college with Alarm Will Sound. AWS is always an adventure, and I'm excited to perform for the first time with Chris Thompson, our new percussionist. Chris is a fabulous musician and a great guy, too.
The next day, Sunday, I've got a recital with Dave Demsey at the Ringwood concert series in Ringwood, New Jersey. Dave is a saxophone virtuoso and a colleague at William Paterson University, where I teach. Dave is really the total package: an interpretive player, an improviser, teacher, scholar, administrator, husband, father, all done at the highest levels. He's really been a positive mentor for me and making music with him is inspiring. I'm honored to share the stage with him.
Then on Thursday, September 25, I've got my annual faculty recital at WPU. This is strictly interpretive music, no improvising. I get very nervous for these shows, as all of my students and colleagues are watching and listening. Talk about having to put your money where your mouth is! It's much harder than playing in NYC by far. But I'm really excited to be premiering a piece by Bob Morris. Bob is coming down for the show (yet more pressure), so I'm working hard to prepare.
